What You Need to Know About Painting Epoxy Floor
When painting epoxy floors and surfaces you need to use the right tools and materials for the job to get it done right. With professional insight and guidance you can be sure to understand all you need to know about this service as well as why you need an expert hand to get it done right the first time. Read on to see the steps to covering the surface solution.
Step 1. Prepare The Surface
Preparation of the surface before application is necessary in order to ensure adhesion between the product and the substrate. Suitable methods are sanding or diamond-grinding which allow for grip to be created between the layers, giving even more steadfastness in the finish. Any surfaces that have been contaminated with oils may also require chemical cleaning.
Step 2. Sweeping and Cleaning the Floor
Use an industrial vacuum that picks up even small dust particles so that there is no room or space for imperfections to form under the layer that could cause damage over time. The floor must be cleaned of all dust and residues before starting to prime. Otherwise you will have various particles trapped within the coat and the overall finish of the process will be significantly weaker that expected. The less micro-dust on the surface the less primer you will need before you can begin.
Step 3. Prime The Surface
Always prime the surface you are working on, don’t believe the saying that this step is not necessary. Priming will give your finished surface a longer life and better adhesion to the substrate below. Furthermore it will seal the substrate which in turn eliminates the risks of bubbles trapped under the finished layer. Priming also helps reduce the amount of product that will be required in the later stages.
Step 4. Fill All Cracks, Holes, Etc.
For thin cracks it may be necessary to slice them with a diamond cutter before filling in order to improve the anchoring of the grout.
Step 5. Application of the First Coat
Empty all the contents of the hardener in the component A. Use an electrical mixer and mix at least for two minutes. Don’t skimp on the mixing as the material must be ideally mixed to ensure the finished layer isn’t sticky and tacky when completed.
Step 6. Apply the Product With a Roller
Use a good quality roller, as poor quality rollers may start to shed. You should be able to re-coat after 24 hours. Make sure that any issues that have appeared are sealed-filled before starting the next coat. You may also need to sand some uneven surfaces that appeared after the first coat. If necessary, wait an extra dry for the grout to dry before recoating.
Step 7. Apply The Final Coat
Before placing the final coat make sure all holes and cracks have been filled, and that all dust has been collected. Otherwise you will get an ugly texture on the final surface.
